We’ve been connecting with church communicators each week this summer with our ‘A Week in the Life’ series.
Today we hear from Sarah Murry. She’s the communications director at Rock Bridge Community Church, a multi-site church serving Northwest Georgia and the Tennessee Valley.
What’s on your plate this week?
Hopefully no printer issues, unlike last week! I’m playing catch-up with my print list because of that. I’ve got my usual weekly tasks like website updates, printing bulletins, etc. We are in the process of launching a fifth campus in Hixson, Tenn., so I have promotional materials, social media graphics, signage and other stuff to get ready for them. They’re having “preview services” for the next few weeks and the campus will officially launch on Sept. 11. We’re also starting to discuss and plan for promotion for the Fall Festivals that happen at all of our campuses. I’m going to be recording a short video to send out to all of our staff in waves that introduces a new Creative Request submission system I’m trying to implement. It’s still in development and needs tweaking, but I’m looking forward to having a concrete system in place to give myself and other staff members more accountability and organization skills when it comes to requesting help and materials. My role is a central role and I serve all five of our campuses so my tasks are many and varied!
What are you most excited about right now?
I’m pretty excited about this new Creative Request system. Like I said, hopefully it will help everyone across the board be more organized and will give everyone some clear boundaries and deadlines. It’ll be nice to have requests coming through one channel instead of from all directions.
What’s holding you back this week and how will you overcome it?
My whole family (except for my 3 month old) has the “back-to-school crud.” We’re all feeling pretty rough and hacking up lungs. I need to make sure I listen to my body this week and take the necessary measures to rest and recover, even if that means taking another sick day. (Gasp—I’ve already taken one this week!)
What does your work space look like right now?
I share a loft work space with two other guys on my team. It’s a pretty cool space! Sometimes I have to find somewhere else to work or put in some headphones because you can hear everything going on around you, but it’s mostly got a good vibe.
