We’re proud to announce the launch of our latest book, Rethink Communication: A Playbook to Clarify and Communicate Everything in Your Church by Phil Bowdle.
The church doesn’t have a message problem.
The church has a message delivery problem.
Communication has changed dramatically in the last 30 years. But many churches haven’t changed their approach.
- Attendance: We communicate like members attend every single week. They don’t.
- Engagement: We communicate like people have to show up to hear our message. They don’t.
- Attention: We communicate like people are paying attention. They’re not.
It’s time to rethink communication.
With more than a decade of church communication experience, Phil Bowdle walks through the new reality of what attendance, engagement, and attention look like for the church. Then he offers a practical communication playbook you can use to communicate anything in your church—and actually connect. These practical tips and proven strategies will work regardless of size, staff, or budget.

The book is a breath of fresh air for church comm folks. I promise. Lots of high level stuff, but TONS of nitty-gritty examples, charts, examples of plans, etc.
I interviewed Phil recently where he walks though the main sections of the book. You can catch it here: https://www.butler.church/lunch-and-learn-rethink-communications-with-phil-bowdle/
