This postcard came in the mail today advertising the Holy Week services at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minn.
It’s a very traditional and beautifully designed postcard (you’ve gotta love the architectural drawing). But I wonder if that’s enough. They’re advertising their church based on a building, probably hoping to reach people interested in church but who don’t already have an Easter service to attend.
They’re probably trying to appeal to the person who says, “Hey, look—a church!” and thinks they should go.
Perhaps it’s a strategy that could only work at Easter when people are thinking about church? It does have the limitations of only appealing to people interested in church—and especially traditional ideas of church.
I’d also be curious about who they sent the postcard to. It was addressed to me, so I’m assuming they were working from some kind of a list (not sure how I got on that list), but it’d be interesting to see what kind of a demographic they were targeting.
I like the design—I just wonder about the effectiveness.

It sounds like they are like my church. My church feels the need to feature the building on pretty much everything, even though they provide a map, phone number, address and website on the pieces as well.
There is something cool about this though. Maybe its because it seems so old school. I’m not too hip on the purple, but the artwork is cool. I am also impressed by the amount of type they squeezed onto the back of the card.
