Every week I hold online office hours and answer questions from folks like you. This week we’ve got a personal question about where I’d like to travel next and another one about how to build a content calendar with a small team. Take a look and be sure to join me every Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. CDT for online office hours!
My church’s creative/comm team is launching a social media team that I am leading (likely five-ish people). Is Hootsuite our most effective tool for this? How do we go about creating a content calendar?
My answer:
Hootsuite is, by far, the best content creation tool out there. Hands down. It amplifies your productivity, simply based on the bulk scheduling feature alone.
As far as creating a content calendar, here’s a Hootsuite template (in various formats) you can use to get started.
Good luck. It’s a blast once you can get a system down that works.
Where do you want to travel to next?
My answer:
I would love, love, love to take my wife to Ireland someday. Her dad’s entire family is 100% Irish. She was named after County Kerry. Our son’s name is Finnegan. It’s just seems right that we go there someday.
Thanks for the great questions everybody! Hopefully this information will help you get from where you are to where you want to go. See you next time in the office!

Justin, you must go to Ireland. I’ve gone there twice with my wife, who has been several times (including a semester in college). She will gladly help you plan a trip!

Thanks for the kind words Justin. The bulk scheduler is definitely an underused feature of HootSuite. Such a time saver though!
Let us know if we can help with anything!

Hi Guys,
I tried the cool Excel spreadsheet so I could Bulk upload my data. I had already been doing this but the fact that it created all the dates for me was an improved time saver.
I ran into one snag though. Although all my times are correct in my CSV file, when I upload the file to Hootsuite, all my times are reset to 12:00am. Do you know of anyway around this?
Thanks,
Steve

I’m about to try this solution and then I will report back.
Save As = instead of choosing CSV, choose MS-DOS CSV

Unfortunately that didn’t solve it either. All my times have been reset from 6:30am to 12:00am.

Here’s my workaround.
– In Column A – Right Click | Format Cells | Under Number Click Custom
– Where it says Type, place following code: mm/dd/yyyy h:mm:ss AM/PM
– Press OK
When you are back in the spreadsheet, click on cell A1 and then drag the little square in the bottom right of cell A1 to the bottom of you date and time list. NOTE: if you change your time in A1, you will have to repeat the step of dragging cell A1 to the bottom of the column.
I also wanted to note, that I like to create tweets for 6:30am and 7:30am. I do this simply by creating two separate spreadsheets and then uploading them.
I trust this helps.
Steve
