Free WordPress Blog Installs for Church Leaders

April 8, 2008 by

56% of you pastors out there haven’t started blogging yet, according to a super scientific poll done by the Church Marketing Sucks Polling & Research Department. Now, a lot of you might be interested, but you have no idea where to start.

Scott Magdalein has something interesting to offer you. Here’s what he has to say:

God impressed on me something much more simple and less spiritual than I expected that I should do for church leaders around the globe.

It’s simple really. I know how to install WordPress. Most church leaders don’t know how to install WordPress and don’t have the time to learn or the money to hire someone to do it for them. Everyone knows that a hosted WordPress blog is more powerful, flexible, and freeing than any free blogging account (WordPress.com, Blogger, even Typepad though it’s not free). So, here it is.

I’m offering to do free WordPress installs for church leaders that want to use blogging as a tool in their ministry.

Remember, just because it’s free doesn’t mean it’s effective. If it’s something you really feel you need to do, you can check out his original post for some more details. And once he sets you up with WordPress, why don’t you head back here and catch up on all we’ve been saying about blogging:

Sounds like a great idea… I’m stuck with a free WordPress account and would love to move it to my own server. How do we do this?

Onya Scott! Well done for taking a very practical approach to using your skills to assist those with the gift of preaching to help get the word out!

Great idea Scott. However, I would rather you teach me how to fish than to fish for me. Do you happen to have instructions you could share with me? I am willing to learn…

Awesome concept! I use WordPress all of the time (for my freelance business) and just got back from a youth missions trip (I’m the youth missions pastor) and blogged with my iphone to Facebook. For my next two trips this summer I hope to blog to a dedicated WordPress account just for trips.
Great idea and it’s much needed!

It will be quite interesting when pastors start getting pornographic comment spam.

    Scott,
Great idea. I should have thought of this sooner … nice that you beat me to the chase.
Anyways, I would like to help out and if anyone has requests that Scott cannot fill, contact me via my site. Also, if you are interested in what hosting options are out there – I will do like Scott and give you some recommendations – and not just myself .. Afterall, this is for ministry and not business.
    Blessings,
    Brad

I would like for you to help me set this up if possible. Can you email me at trailerclub@msn.com so we can begin?

    SiteGround.com GIVES FREE WORDPRESS INSTALLS.
It also gives 24/7 online service, and gives a better price on server space ($6/mo for 75GB instead of the 1 GB that Scott offers*) It also lets you host up to 6 websites on that plentiful server space, and gives you a free domain name if you didn’t have one.
With siteground, it took less than an hour.
Scott was good to bring WordPress to the forefront. He told me he was not aware that Siteground installs WordPress.
*Scott’s service would be helpful for the church who wants to install a WP account on a cheaper host than siteground, such as those listed at http://www.100best-free-web-space.com/

http://www.siteground.com offers free WordPress installs if you buy server space from them.

Thanks for serving Scott – if you upload (or turn them on to the) automatic wordpress update plugin, they can zip through the frequent updates the community cranks out.

Church blogs can be great for people who want to know what is on the mind of the pastor. He may have so much more to post there than he said in his sermon.

Are you still doing this? It has been four years since you postd this and I never knew. Can you still help me build a blog site for my pastor?
