As the weather heated up, so did our comments section. You said a lot of great things in May, and we’re here to highlight those for the folks who don’t read below our “Posted by…” line. Here’s what you said this month…
- “Maybe, like Chick-fil-A, we should close our church doors on Sundays so our ‘owners’ are free to worship with their families if they choose. Wait. No. Let me rethink that…” – C. Michael Pilato on Chick-fil-A and Church Marketing
- “…While I don’t think that there is anything wrong with a gorgeous church, I think that what really matters is the hearts of the people that attend the church…” – Tammie on Church Building Sucks
- “…Please, please, churchers, be more ‘in the world’. God is not going to smite thee for being a little authentic.” – Anthea Buys on Missionary Blogging
- “I think the sad thing is that Apple _didn’t_ create anything new. They just marketed it better than anyone else. It has a good interface design (I hear) and it looks pretty. The only revolution was in terms of fashion, not technology.” – mrben on MacRumors Thread 500
- “We had a class for newly marrieds in our church called The Cleavers. It’s biblical, and tv. :-)” – Bob on Help Name Marriage Classes
- “The word ‘owners’ has a corporate, business-like connotation to me. I’m considered an owner and a shareholder at my credit union. It seems like corporate language. I can see where Vintage 21 is coming from, but I’m not sold on the idea. To me, the word ‘membership’ implies a community–a body of people with the same purpose. Isn’t that what we are? The body of Christ?” – Shelly Ivey on Ownership, Not Membership
- “Oh dear…” – Jenn on Christians vs. Atheists on Nightline
You talk, and we’ll listen. Keep dialoguing and doing what keeps us going here at Church Marketing Sucks, you just might get your 15 minutes of something similar to fame in seeing yourself in our comment roundup!

Showcase your creativity – and help other churches, too!
It’s a contest for the best designs for church outreach campaigns. You can enter 3 designs in 3 areas (9 in all, I guess): new church launch, special event invitation, or sermon series promo. Prizes look pretty good, but you’re also helping fellow designers by making available your good ideas for inspiration.
Can you pass the word along to other church graphic designers?
