Church Marketing Sucks started on July 22, 2004. We’ve had more than 15 years of helping churches communicate better.
Yes, in internet terms that makes us a dinosaur—just like our ‘That’s how we’ve always done it’ graphic.
We don’t want to do it the same way we’ve always done it, so we’re taking a break to go away and dream it all up again.
A few things to note:
- This site isn’t going anywhere. There’s 15 years worth of content right here. That’s a goldmine of ideas, resources, tips, and encouragement. Use that search box, hit the archives, and find some goodies. (Yeah, our MySpace tips might be a little stale, but you can probably sort out what has a longer shelf life.)
- There’s still some incredible work happening with our nonprofit parent, the Center for Church Communication:
- Creative Missions – Look for the next trip to be announced soon.
- Spire – Check out their work bridging faith and creativity.
- Publishing: Rethink Communication, You’ve Got This, Unwelcome, and our other books are still relevant and incredibly helpful.
- Watch for an announcement very soon about a new initiative from the Center for Church Communication.
Finally, thank you.
This has been an incredible community over the years. So many people have told us stories of coming across our name and feeling like they finally found someone who understands.
And more than a catchy name, actually helping churches communicate better has been a profound privilege. Thank you.
We hope this has been frustrating, educating, and motivating. Keep telling the greatest story ever told.

Kevin, thanks for all you and the rest of the CMS crew have done over the years! 15 years ago the vast majority of churches were doing communications and marketing poorly and nobody was talking about it. CMS has both challenged churches to do better and shown them how to do things better.

Are you guys going to do a communications calendar again? I really enjoyed mine last year.
