MinistryCOM 2007… You Going?

August 30, 2007 by

There are only a handful of days until the 2007 MinistryCOM event begins in Nashville. In addition to a bunch of other really cool church communication pros, yours truly has been invited to help temper the tantrums. You gotta have at least one person that “sucks” in the line-up to level the playing field.

If you haven’t registered, I hear there are still some spots open. I got an e-mail from Kem Meyer (Granger Comm Guru and Friday afternoon keynote) the other day. She said she was ready with her most brilliant message she’s ever delivered in the world, so I’m looking forward to her closing the conference out. I had that same slot last year and the only thing going through your mind is you hope you’re not saying something that’s already been said, and you hope people aren’t thinking they wish they would have booked their flight out early because the last session is a bore.

Actually, Kem was a little more revealing in her e-mail. She doesn’t have a clue what she’s going to say.

I guess I can’t grovel too much, I’m still figuring that out too…

Hope to see you there!

Since this is a marketing site, I’ll interject this…
It’s not great marketing for a conference when you hear 3 out of the 4 headliners (terry storch said something about this on his blog I think…) aren’t really sure what they’re going to talk about…
It’s a huge investment for many churches to send someone to a conference like ministrycom.
It might be a better marketing message to keep the excitement rolling by telling us the amazing things you’re going to be presenting and we’ll just have to be there to hear it.
I trust all 3 of you to bring it, so I’m booked and ready to go, but I think the message of unprepared, and “i’m not sure yet…” could use a little improvement…from a marketing standpoint.

Jeremy, perhaps the touch of sarcasm didn’t come through enough in my post. Apologies for trivializing or ignoring the huge investment of time and money you (and all of us) are putting into coming to this event.
We all have some idea of what we’re speaking on because we had to submit descriptions to MinistryCOM many many months ago. So from a topical standpoint we’re good to go. It’s the other stuff we’re working through (stories, examples, flow, etc.).
I’m sure you didn’t mean any harm by your somewhat sharp comments. We’re all in this together my friend. We’re all going to be learning from each other.

    brad-
totally didn’t mean them to be sharp. tone isn’t conveyed too well on a blog post at times.
I’m just speaking rather blankly to the marketing issue.
clearly it’s not needed since registrations are huge (pre-reg is double last year from what i read).
I’m just trying to look at the message…
seriously, i attach no emotion to what I wrote (if you knew me, you’d know that’s how I am)…just looking analytically at the whole post and pondering what the message could be…

You know I told Terrell that this was the Highlight of my year and he asked what that said about the rest of my life? Well, all picking on aside, I am looking forward to it. Being new in church communications, I am looking forward to see what other churches are doing, to get some fresh ideas, and rub shoulders with some of the most cutting edge churches out there. But knowing that the keynote speakers have been working on their material for the whole year is nice to know we are going to get some great material! I appreciate Brentwood doing the church tour, that is a big highlight to me!

Can you say money hogs? What happened to Jesus? I would go to a NewSpring or an Acts 29 conference before going to a $300 confernece. I am glad some people get the idea it’s about Jesus.
You can learn 90% of this by listening online, reading forums and blogs, and just by watching other churches online.
Just think…. 3 staff members = ~$900 + airfare + lodging = a nice budget to pour out some love on your local communinty.
    Something is messed up here!
