Just stumbled across the unique and somewhat tongue-in-cheek site ChurchRater from Off the Map (the guys who bought an atheist on eBay). It’s exactly what it sounds like, a site to rate churches. It reminds me of much less serious and more open source version of Guest Reflections.
It also seems like a promotional after-thought for the book Jim & Casper Go to Church: Frank Conversation About Faith, Churches, and Well-Meaning Christians. (link via Knightopia)

Doesn’t Ship-of-Fools already have something like that entitled “The Mystery Worshipper?”

Hi Kevin,
Actually, ChurchRater wasn’t a promotional afterthought for the book. We’ve had a ChurchRater blog for about a year; we recently redid it make it much easier for people to submit church ratings. In view of the timing we are highlighting the book on the redesigned site, since what Jim and Casper did, in effect, was rate the churches they visited.
The site and book (and asking the ebay atheist to write church reviews) are all connected in that they all are based on Jim Henderson’s desire to encourage honest feedback from people, including visitors and/or atheists, about their church experiences. Church leaders are welcome to respond to the ratings of their church. We want to encourage dialog.

My other comment I made a few years ago disappeared – can you go find it for me?

Hi! Thanks for mentioning “Jim & Casper Go to Church.” I’m a volunteer with Jim’s organization Off the Map and I wanted to let you know about our Live event coming up this November in Seattle. Both Jim and Matt Casper will be speaking at this event. Here is the link if you want to find out more: http://www.offthemap.com/live

ChurchRater is relaunched -ChurchRater.com is a new website that allows church seekers and members to rate and discuss their experiences at churches all across the country.
ChurchRater is a combination of things: it’s a ‘Yelp’ of sorts for churches where visitors can rate and discuss their experiences at church, but it’s also a social network for church goers and seekers, too, a place where people can dialog about their faith and their lives.
